ROCK strikes MAVPY back

Tartu University ROCK took an important victory over group leader Cherkassy
MAVPY at home defeating the opponents 99:74
Before the final quarter ROCK¹s lead was 18 points 69:52. A solid lead but
as they needed 13 points victory the final quarter was quite tense. MAVPY
came back. 71:59; 74:61, but Gert Kullamäe¹s 4 three pointers plus two and
two free throws and tough team defense leaded ROCK over much bigger victory
at the end.
First quarter of the game was between equal teams and the final score of the
first quarter was MAVPY¹s 1 point lead 21:20. One of the break points of the
match was in the middle of second quarter when MAVPy¹s young forward Kyrylo
Fesenko made a foul against Vallo Allingu, followed by technical foul.
Allingu and Kullamäe succeeded in 4 free throws and Tarmo Kikerpill added 2
more points in the next attack. These few seconds of the game broke ROCK¹s
lead to 38:30 which was also the half time score.
Third and fourth quarter were already for ROCK. MAVPY¹s Lithuanian Arnas
Kazlauskas tried his best, scoring several times from behind, but was always
answered by the hero of the game, Gert Kullamäe, and Martin Müürsepp.
ARNAS KAZLAUSKAS (no. 9 MAVPY): Anything can happen. It was a total disaster
from our side this time. ROCK was working hard in defense and we were not.
They got often very free throwing positions.
ANDREI PODKOVYROV (head coach MAVPY): I think we lost this game in our
heads. We had good last three games and some players were thinking we can
win even if we don¹t give 100%. At the end everybody was trying to save the
individually.
TARMO KIKERPILL (no. 9 ROCK): We playd as the opponents let us play both in
Ukraine and here. This time they let us play, at home they were better. We
are stong at home so I hope more our fans start to visit the games abroad
also.
ALGIRDAS BRAZYS (head coach ROCK): This was a really good game. The
opponents are one of the best players in Ukraine. We knew they are good in
attack and not so good in defense, so this gave us the key for victory this
time. All the team believes that it is possible to beat SAMARA at their home
also.
