Einar Johansson: В«Cherkaski MavpyВ» comes out from the first position!

Today at 19.30 the basketball players of Icelandic «Njardvik» arrived to Cherkasy. The Icelander spent 6 hours for the trip. In the way they had less time between the flights in Amsterdam, because they flied with two flights “Rekjavik – Amsterdam”, “Amsterdam – Kiev”. As we remember the players from Samara came later because of unfavorable weather in Moscow and they were forced to change the airport in Moscow. It seemed that all clubs, which came to Cherkasy, had unpleasant situations during the way. Now the basketball players of “Njardvik” showed their physical preparation. The interval between the flights was measured with minutes. So they had to run, without ball of course, but with package in the hands. In spite of the exhausting journey the head of «Njardvik» and the most titled coach of Iceland – Einar Johansson didn’t object to give the interview with the author of these lines.
- Einar, your team loosed all 4 games, loosed the chance for the continuing of the fight for the Euro reward, what ефілі will you give your pupils for the last two games, тфьудн for the match with «Cherkaski mavpy»?
- We understand that it will be the difficult game, but we’ll try to fight with one of the best teams of that tournament. I think, that the most important is playing of the players on the whole territory of the parquet. In spite of the results of the match I’ll be satisfied with the play, even with the defeat.
- In spite of that your team plays on the inside arena on the leading positions, you returned to the Euro basketball after the 14-years break (in 1992 participates in Euro Cup). Wasn’t it too hard after such long interval?
- Yes, of course. In Iceland our team plays in the hall of “Keflavik”, and it isn’t good for us. The city, where is team from – Njardvik has only three thousand inhabitants! You understand that it can’t provide us good infrastructure. But in Njardvik nearly half of the population is fond of basketball. When you get used to that frantic support. But we didn’t feel it on the Euro arena.
- В«NjardvikВ» loosed all four matches of the Euro Cup Challenge, two of them with the difference only in 2 points (with В«MavpyВ» and В«SamaraВ»). What lacked the team in the final phase of the match?
- In these two matches we could overtake the opponent thank’s to their mistakes. And on my opinion to use the mistakes of others is one of the main moments to the victory in the modern basketball. The opponents have bigger experience. “Njardvik” has only three players of high class. These are Jeb Ivey, Igor Belanski and Brend Birmingham (the last could not come to Cherkasy by the way). That’s why we can’t demand from the team more.
- What prognoses can you give concerning the positions in the group?
- We have of course the one of the most strong groups of Euro Cup Challenge. I think that “Mavpy” and “Samara” will go to the play off. “Cherkasski mavpy” will do it from the first position I think.
