“Khimik” from Juhniy has come to Cherkasy to prove that they are worth to take higher position in the tournament schedule, as Cherkaser did in the first round of the Championship. That defeat on their own parquet of Mitrovic’s team is considered to be the biggest in its super league history – 61:84.
The players from “Khimik” started assured and strong. Two block-shots one after another by Henderson and Djuric helped in it. It gave the chance to hold the starting jerk – 9:3 and to remember Fesenko, how to execute this element. Andrii Lebediev managed to lead his team ahead with two three-pointers -18:17. Mitrovic decided to change Djuric, who had 2 fouls with Zubrytskyy. Jaroslav put 3 points in two attacks and then realized hard two-pointer – 23:21 for guests.
The beginning of the second period reminded the start of the match: a lot of mistakes, and frantic fight. Volodymyr Gurtovyy and then Dickens with effective dank warmed up the atmosphere in the sport palace “Budivelnik”. Juris Umbrasko got opportunity to demoralize his formal team. He proved the coaches, defending the basket. As a result Umbrasko became one of the most effective players of this match – for 17 minutes of his playing time he got 16 points and 3 rebounds. This indicator allowed Cherkaser to go for a long break with advantage of 2 points – 37:35.
The last quarter was the decisive, before it “Mavpy” lead only with difference in 5 points – 57:52. With its start Cherkaser closed with the zone defense. When guests came into three-second zone the hosts did their business. The constant answers from perimeter by Lebediev increased assured the difference. It seamed that “Mavpy” used the same technique to win in autumn in Juzhniy. The final result is more than convinced – 84:66.
Andriy Podkovyrov: Today’s game is of great importance, not only tournament, but also psychological. In spite of decent difference the intrigue of the match didn’t decrease till the last period. For luck we found the worth weapons – the zone defense.
After this we wait for the important match against “Azovmash”, for which the team has to prepare solid. One of the main problems of my team is the trauma of Jarutis. The recruit of our team may be will help the team, he appears soon, but I will not tell his name yet. It will be a surprise.
Zvezdan Mitrovic: The class of “Cherkaski Mavpy” and “Khimik” is different for today and the reporting period has proved it. Unfortunately, I can’t hope for such players as Podkovyrov. That’s why is too early to talk about victory. Our aim is to get to the play-off from the fourth position.
